The Archive Manager

You use the Archive Manager to archive and restore message threads and messages.

To open the Archive Manager, click the Archive Manager button in the Forums Administrator.

Archiving threads

When you archive threads, you are moving data from active tables in the Forums database, those used in ordinary Forums operations, to archive tables.

Before you archive any message threads, you need to know how old your message threads are. To find out, look in your main conference page for the thread creation date next to each thread.

To archive threads and messages:

  1. Open the Archive Manager by clicking the Archive Manager button in the Forums Administrator. When you first open the Archive Manager, you won't see any threads listed in the archive.
  2. Specify an age limit for archiving threads in number of days.
  3. Click the Archive button. Forums archives threads based on the age limit you specified and refreshes the Archive Manager display to show data about active and archived threads.

Restoring threads

When you restore archived threads, you are moving data from archive tables in the Forums database to active tables, those used in ordinary Forums operations.

Thread data displayed in the Archive Manager include thread number, message count, and relative age. To restore threads, you specify

To restore threads and messages:

  1. Open the Archive Manager by clicking the Archive Manager button in the Forums Administrator. Information about threads you have previously archived appears under the Archive label.
  2. Specify an age limit for restoring threads in number of days. To restore all threads, specify an age value higher than the oldest thread, (like 999).
  3. Click the Restore button. Forums restores threads based on the age limit you specified and refreshes the Archive Manager display to show data about active and archived threads.
