Installing Forums

Note: If you are upgrading from an earlier release of Allaire Forums, see Upgrading from an earlier release.

The setup program gives you the option of replacing your existing Allaire Forums databases. You do not need to replace these databases in order to upgrade. If you do choose to replace your databases, all of the information stored in your current databases will be destroyed. We strongly recommend that you DO NOT replace your existing Allaire Forums databases.

Prior to installation

  1. Install Cold Fusion 2.0. If you have not installed Cold Fusion Professional 2.0 or higher, please do so now.
  2. Maker sure you have the domain name or IP address of the web server host where you want to install Forums 2.0.

To install Forums:

  1. Insert the installation CD into your CD-ROM drive.
  2. On Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 95, select Run from the Start menu. For Windows NT 3.51, select the File menu and choose Run.
  3. Type d:\setup.exe and press Enter.

Where d: is the drive letter designation for your CD-ROM drive. The setup program will prompt you for information necessary to complete the installation.

Note: By default, the Forums setup program will install both templates and databases into the \cfusion\cfapps\ directory. You can install Forums in a different directory. As a security measure these directories should not be accessible to users other than the Web server itself.

Forums documentation is installed in the /web_server_root/Forums/Docs directory by default. You can install Forums documentation in a different directory if you like. To view the online documentation (if this is not what you are already doing) open the following URL:
