ASK THE RODENT

Dear Ratso:
Since I started working at The Firm, I've been afraid of getting fired. I now have a job offer from another firm, but, if I take it, I'll be just as paranoid about getting fired from the new firm. Should I stay or should I go?

Dear Paranoid:

Never quit a job when you can be fired. Quitting means not only no severance pay and no wrongful dismissal case against The Firm. Try the following and you'll be shown the door before you know it:

  1. Stop acting like an obsequious slob in front of partners.
  2. Walk through the office chanting "Attica! Attica! Attica!" (Caution: other associates may join in the chanting.)
  3. The next time you are asked to stay all night to do an emergency project, simply say you have other plans and go home at 5:00 p.m.

Good luck at your new firm.
