Counsel - Mclean, VA
Octagon, an industry leader in the fields of sports and entertainment marketing and the representation of athletes and personalities, is currently recruiting for a Counsel to join the legal team of the Athletes & Personalities division. The successful candidate will provide a full range of domestic and international contract negotiation, drafting and review relating to Octagon clients, events and properties, and legal guidance to business units on transactions and business matters.
Responsibilities and Duties:
• Assist with negotiation, drafting and review of standard and complex athlete, personality, event, properties, and corporate contracts
• Work with client managers to evaluate contractual nonperformance and identify creative resolutions
• Co-counsel with other Legal Department members on collection and contract enforcement matters
• Implement effective practices to cost-effectively pursue claims/enforce rights of clients and company
• Assist Legal Department with complex/non-standard legal matters as needed
• Perform legal research on projects as needed
Required Qualifications
· JD and bar admission in at least one state and 3-5 years relevant law practice experience including both law firm and in-house experience
· Must have significant transactional and/or contract negotiation, drafting and review experience
· Outstanding oral and written skills, including ability to draft concise and effective contracts
· Ability to communicate effectively and persuasively to varied audiences and stakeholders
· Demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure in a deadline oriented fast paced fast-paced entrepreneurial environment
· Excellent organization and prioritization skills
· Integrity, passion and excellence in area of specialization
