The TWC (Time Warner Cable) Sports Los Angeles office currently seeks a Counsel for the Sports Programming group in our Law Department. The position, located in El Segundo, California, will support TWC Sports’ Los Angeles-based Regional Sports Networks and report to the Senior Counsel for Sports Programming and the Senior Vice President/General Manager of the RSNs.
Essential Job Functions:
-Develop and manage business affairs practices, procedures and form documents for TWC’s various networks and their areas/platforms of exhibition
-Create and review assigned deal memos for completeness and potential legal issues
-Research, draft and negotiate content license, production, and talent deals and coordinate attorney review of same
-Handle routine waivers, releases, correspondence and other matters that arise in the ordinary course of the RSN's business operations
-Monitor all the RSNs' third party content license deals to ensure that RSNs and third parties meet their contractual obligations
-Work with and manage outside counsel as necessary
-Must possess strong communication (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skills--will have significant interaction with TWC Sports personnel and Corporate Legal personnel
-Must have the ability to work independently, multi-task, communicate with all levels within the organization, and manage competing priorities and a large volume of work
-Serve as a point of contact for RSN-related matters within the organization
Primary Responsibilities:
-Support legal and business teams by drafting deal memos, and drafting and developing production, licensing, talent and other relevant agreements and related documentation
-Initiate, engage in and finalize contract negotiations as necessary
-Provide analysis, contract summaries and reports, as requested
-Meet with appropriate business units to facilitate and expedite issue resolution
-Provide timely and relevant information, and respond to legal inquiries
Education and Experience Requirements:
-JD from a top-tier law school, excellent academic credentials
-Member of California Bar
-Spanish language competency strongly preferred.
-Five to seven years of post-law school experience in law firm and/or in-house counsel.
-At least 5 years functioning independently in a sports or other televised entertainment-related environment managing production, talent and content licensing matters and drafting/negotiating the related documents -Understanding of and facility with business and transactional law
-Experience dealing directly with clients and giving legal advice on a wide range of issues
Required Skills:
-Maintain a competent understanding and analysis of legal theories and requirements
-Work well independently, with minimal supervision
-Possess outstanding oral and written communication skills in order to communicate with all levels of management
-Demonstrate excellent organizational skills
-Operate with a high degree of confidentiality, ethics, integrity, honesty and maturity
-Demonstrate good judgment, initiative, poise and calm in a fast-paced, quickly changing environment
